Kindergarten Technology

This fall, Kindergarten visited the Computer Lab to learn the rules, computer parts and proper behavior when working with a computer.  Students created a Word document to demonstrate understanding of recognizing letters in the correct alphabetical order and their location on the keyboard.  They also used the space bar and shift key.

Kindergarten created a Shape Book using Microsoft Word and integrating Math and Language Arts.  They learned how to open a document and click and drag clipart into a document.  Students learned how to move through a document using arrow keys, space bar and backspace.  They typed a sentence stating what shape an object is such as a square is a lunchbox or a circle is a button.

Kindergarten read the story 10 Black Dots in Math and created their own version with 5 Black Dots. Students brainstormed ideas of what one black dot can make up to 5 black dots. They typed their sentences in a Word document and then illustrated the page.

In December, Kindergarten was learning about Christmas around the world and traditions in Sweden, Germany and Italy. They used clip art to complete a word web in Kidspiration to reinforce understanding about the traditions.

We use the software program Kidspiration in Kindergarten. One project involved completing a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting shoe and sneaker treads. Another project was completing a Question Web about Martin Luther King Jr.
