Dear Prospective Cathedral
School Family,
Let me be the first to welcome you to our school.
I am glad you are interested in Cathedral School – it truly
is a wonderful place for your child to learn and grow.
We provide a small, family atmosphere where your child’s
mind, body and spirit can be nurtured by caring faculty, staff and
parent volunteers. In fact, all the people who inhabit our school,
whether adults or children live by our motto: “At Cathedral,
we love God, learning, and each other.”
Often prospective parents ask me what makes
Cathedral School different from other Catholic Schools. There are four
things that immediately come to mind.
Our reputation for academic excellence: For almost
100 years, we have proudly served students in the capital city. We have
attained accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools in 2001 and 2006. On the most recent administration of the Iowa
Achievement Tests, every class tested scored in the 99th percentile
when compared to students nationally. In 2006, our Science Olympiad
Team placed 9th in the entire state.
Our size: With only one class of each grade level,
we can know your child (and you) extremely well. Children (and parents)
really come to feel like they are a special part of the class, school,
and parish.
Our diversity: We are recognized as the benchmark
of ethnic, racial, and economic diversity among Raleigh’s
private schools.
Our location: The experiences of all students are
enriched by being able to use the downtown as an “extended
campus.” Students regularly visit museums, government
buildings, and art venues.
Lastly, it is a great responsibility to raise
children in our Catholic faith. We take this very seriously and make
every effort each day to weave our Catholic identity into instruction
and our interactions with each other. We expect it to be obvious that
our students have spent time with us. It is our hope that the
“Cathedral Experience” will remain with them for a
lifetime.
Sincerely,
Donna J. Moss
Principal
