October 2, 2007
I have the most wonderful news to share. Today, the U.S. Department of
Education Secretary, Margaret Spellings, announced that Cathedral
School has been chosen as a National
No Child Left
Behind - Blue Ribbon School for 2007!
This award recognizes public and private schools across the country in
one of two ways. Either the school has made significant progress in
closing the achievement gap or the students in the school achieve at
very high levels. We are being recognized for high
achievement
– being in the top 10% on national achievement tests like the
Iowa Test of Basic Skills in both reading and math. Along
with
the test scores, we were evaluated on other measures such as overall
school program, assessment, curriculum, instructional methods, and
professional development.
This is a huge accomplishment and honor for our little
school.
Words cannot express how proud I am of the faculty, staff, students and
parents for making this a school community that is able to compete and
be recognized on a national level.
We also extend warm congratulations to Our Lady of Lourdes School, who
also received this award. We are proud to share this honor
with a
neighboring school.
In November, Trudie Williamson and I will attend a ceremony in
Washington, D.C. where we will receive the award on behalf of all of
you. Stay tuned for more details
on that and on our upcoming school wide celebration.
We are Blessed and we SHINE!
Sincerely,
Donna J. Moss
